Data recovery by storage medium in Germany
Choose your storage medium – every data recovery follows its own procedure. Click for details, typical damage patterns and the process:
Damage patterns: causes & symptoms of data loss
Whether a data recovery is carried out logically on the computer or physically in the cleanroom depends on the failure pattern – regardless of the operating system (Windows, macOS or Linux). Typical symptoms and signs by which you can recognise the seriousness of the situation:
- Drive clicks, grinds or beeps
- Storage device is no longer detected or shows 0 MB
- sudden failure after a drop, water or a power surge
- Windows asks „Format disk?“ or reports „RAW“
- Files, folders or entire partitions suddenly go missing
- RAID/NAS array degraded or a rebuild fails
Based on the symptoms, we assign the damage pattern to one of these causes:
Mechanical
Mechanical damage
Clicking or grinding noises after a drop or head crash – the read/write head or platters are affected. Switch off immediately; every further start increases the damage.
Water
Water & liquid damage
After water damage or flooding, corrosion is a risk. Do not blow-dry, dry or switch on – pack it safely and send it in.
Electrical
Electronics & fire damage
Power surges, short circuits or fire scorch the electronics. Often only the circuit board is defective – the data remains intact.
Logical
Logical damage
Deleted, formatted, a damaged file system (NTFS, exFAT, ext4) or a lost partition. The rule now: stop using the storage device.
Data loss from ransomware and cyberattacks
After a ransomware attack (a particularly widespread form of malware), files are encrypted and given a ransom demand. Do not pay any ransom – it does not guarantee decryption and finances further attacks. Secure the affected storage devices unchanged so that later recovery remains possible. Companies file a criminal report and contact the Central Cybercrime Contact Point (ZAC) of the responsible State Criminal Police Office. Depending on the malware – such as LockBit or Akira – we check whether data can be reconstructed from shadow copies, backups or unencrypted remnants. Our penetration test shows how attack surfaces can be reduced in advance.
Cleanroom and data recovery laboratory
We handle physical damage in our cleanroom laboratory. In the low-dust environment of a cleanroom, hard drives can be opened to replace read/write heads or transplant platters – procedures that would permanently destroy the storage device outside a cleanroom. This requires an extensive inventory of spare parts with identical models. In our data recovery laboratory, we combine this hardware work with the forensic reconstruction of the file system.

FAQ on data recovery in Germany
How long does data recovery take?
The duration depends on the type of damage. Simple logical cases take 1–2 days; complex mechanical or RAID cases take several days to weeks.
What are the costs?
Our analysis is subject to a fee (from 69 €). It includes up to 2 technician hours for a thorough analysis. You then receive a binding fixed-price offer. Recoveries are possible from approx. 299 €.
Can a 100 % recovery be guaranteed?
No – reputable providers do not give an absolute guarantee. However, our success rate is over 95 %.
What happens to defective storage devices?
On request, these can be returned or securely disposed of in accordance with GDPR requirements.
Which storage media can you recover?
We specialise in recovering HDDs, SSDs, RAID arrays, NAS systems, USB sticks, memory cards and mobile devices – regardless of the manufacturer.
What should I avoid doing after data loss?
Switch off the defective device immediately and do not restart it. Avoid do-it-yourself recovery attempts – they can make the damage worse. Have the storage device examined by experts.
What are the chances of success and is there a guarantee?
Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, our chances of success are over 95 %. There is no absolute guarantee, but the principle of no data, no charge applies: you only pay for a successful recovery.
Can data be recovered after water or fire damage?
Yes, recovery is often possible. Do not switch the device on; instead, pack it safely and send it in for analysis as soon as possible.
How does the analysis work and how fast is the express service?
After the free initial consultation, you send us the storage device. Within one business day you receive a diagnostic report with a fixed-price offer. Standard cases take a few days; if needed, we offer an express service with fast prioritisation.
Can I use data recovery software myself?
Only in
some cases – with purely logical damage on a still-functioning storage device – can recovery software achieve anything at all, and even then without any guarantee.
You should never risk important data with it: in the case of unusual noises, after a drop, water or a power surge, or when a storage device is no longer recognised, any further access can make the loss permanent. Never install such programs on the affected drive and, when in doubt, always have the storage device checked by specialists.

How can I best prevent data loss?
The most important measure is regular backups – ideally following the 3-2-1 rule: three copies on two different media, one of them at an external location. In addition, you should regularly check your IT infrastructure for vulnerabilities. Have you already tried our free
IT security check for small and medium-sized enterprises? In just a few minutes you receive a PDF report with concrete recommendations – from backup strategies to access protection and network security.
After recovery: preventing further data loss
The most reliable safeguard is a well-thought-out backup following the 3-2-1 rule – so that at least one copy survives a defect, theft or ransomware:
- 3 copies of your data
- 2 different media
- 1 copy off-site
